👮‍♂️ Neighbourhood Week of Action – Retail Crime Focus

As part of this week’s Neighbourhood Week of Action, today we have focused specifically on tackling retail crime across the city centre.

Our Commercial Team have been out in strength, engaging with the community, supporting retailers, and taking proactive steps to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

Key activity from today:

Early Morning Beat Sweeps
Officers conducted high-visibility patrols across Market Street and St Ann’s Square from 7am, supported by Special Constables.

10 stop searches carried out
1 arrest made for court offences

Targeted Action
A prolific shoplifter was arrested as part of a planned operation.

The individual was also found in possession of cannabis
They will now be processed through the courts

Partnership Working
Officers worked alongside partners from Citico, promoting the “Stop It” Campaign – an initiative aimed at reducing both physical and verbal abuse towards customer-facing staff in the city.

High Visibility Patrols – Arndale
Additional officers have been deployed within The Arndale Centre, working closely with security teams to:

Target anti-social behaviour hotspots
Disrupt repeat offenders
Reassure businesses and the public

Today’s activity demonstrates a clear commitment to supporting retailers, protecting staff, and tackling those who commit crime in our city centre. Through proactive policing and strong partnership working, we continue to make Manchester a safer place to live, work, and visit.
